Our long-time charity partner SDCAS is at risk of closure. After nearly 30 years of life-changing support, they’re facing a devastating funding crisis.

At a time when the far right is gaining ground and public funding is being stripped back, organisations like SDCAS are being pushed to the brink. The very spaces that offer dignity and care to people seeking safety are the ones under threat.

SDCAS provides food, clothing, English lessons, childcare, legal advice – but most of all, a safe and welcoming space in an increasingly hostile environment.

If they close, thousands who rely on them will be left without this vital support.Independent culture has always been about community – about showing up for each other when times get harder. This is one of those moments.

Who are SDCAS?

Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) aims to promote the wellbeing of asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants by providing safe spaces where clients can access free, holistic services.

These services include hot lunches, advice and support on health, housing, immigration, education, and employment, along with a range of social and wellbeing activities. The organisation’s mission is to relieve poverty and promote wellbeing among these communities in the London Borough of Southwark.

GALA & SDCAS

GALA has raised over £47,700 for Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers. We look forward every year to increasing the fundraising for this much needed cause. This is the only charity we raise money for, however we also collaborate and sponsor community arts installations. Previous partners have been Peckham Platform, South London Gallery, SAGE Flowers, and gIRLS aBOUT pECKHAM.
